The NHL has four trophies that are just for the team, one is based on the regular season while the other three are based on the playoffs. These trophies are awarded for the most points or the champion of a conference or the entire Stanley Cup playoffs.

Presidents’ Trophy

Playoffs Trophies
Prince of Wales Trophy

The Prince of Wales Trophy is presented to the playoff champion in the Eastern Conference.

History and Timeline

This trophy was donated by His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales in 1924. Over the almost 100 years of its existence, this trophy has been awarded for many different things:

1925: awarded to the winner of the first game in Madison Square Garden

 

1928-38: awarded to the team finishing first in the American Division

1939-67: awarded to the team that won the regular season championship

1968-74: awarded to the regular-season champion of the East Division

1975-81: awarded to the regular-season winner of the Wales Conference

1982-93: awarded to the playoff champion of the Wales Conference

1994-Present: awarded to the playoff champion of the Eastern Conference

 

Clarence S. Campbell Bowl

The Campbell Bowl is presented by the member clubs for perpetual competition by the NHL in recognition of the services of Clarence S. Campbell, League President from 1946 to 1977, and awarded to the playoff champion in the Western Conference.

History and Timeline

This trophy was created in 1878 but wasn’t presented until 1968.

1968-74: awarded to the regular-season champion of the West Division

1975-81: awarded to the regular-season winner of the Campbell Conference

1982-93: awarded to the playoff champion of the Campbell Conference

1994-Present: awarded to the playoff champion of the Western Conference

 

The Stanley Cup

The Stanley Cup is the championship trophy awarded annually to the NHL playoff winner. Next week I will be talking about the history of the Cup so be sure to check back!
